Drywall Repair in Newmarket

Drywall Repair in Newmarket — drywall repair work in a local home

Most drywall calls we get from Newmarket come out of Stonehaven and Copper Hills, where 1990s and 2000s framing has spent two decades drying and shifting. Nail pops, corner-bead cracks and hairlines over doorways are the signature — annoying, cosmetic and very fixable.

A proper repair means fastening the board to the stud again, taping any actual cracks and feathering compound wide enough to disappear under paint. Send photos with something for scale and we quote it free, usually grouped so one visit clears every wall in the house.

Drywall Repair in Newmarket: what to expect

Two Newmarket-specific wrinkles. First, the older streets around Main Street South are plaster, not drywall — patches there need a different method or they fail, and we treat them as plaster repair-in-kind. Second, Glenway's newer infill homes are still inside settlement periods where hairline cracking is normal; we time repairs so you are not chasing the same crack twice, and anything covered by a new-home warranty is worth documenting before we touch it.

About Newmarket homes

Newmarket wraps around one of the region's best-preserved historic downtowns — Main Street South, with its 19th-century storefronts and the surrounding streets of Victorian and early-1900s homes near Fairy Lake and the Holland River. Beyond the core, Huron Heights and the Davis Drive area carry 1960s–70s stock, Glenway and Summerhill filled in through the 80s and 90s, and Stonehaven, Copper Hills and Woodland Hill added the 2000s-era subdivisions that now make up much of the town.

What affects the cost of drywall repair in Newmarket

What you'll pay for drywall repair in Newmarket depends on a few real things:

  • Size and depth of the damage — a screw hole is filled in minutes; a fist-sized hole needs backing, tape and multiple coats over two visits
  • Number of locations — ten small spots across three rooms takes longer than one big patch, because each spot needs its own coats and drying time
  • Texture on the wall or ceiling — stipple and knockdown finishes have to be recreated to hide the patch, which adds a step
  • Parking, access and any condo or townhouse rules at your Newmarket address, which affect how the crew works.
  • Paint matching — if you have the original paint we can finish the job in one go; if not, walls may need corner-to-corner repainting to hide sheen differences
  • Access and height — stairwell walls and double-height entries need ladders or planks, which adds setup time

Drywall Repair in Newmarket: common questions

Our Stonehaven house keeps getting nail pops on the second floor — is something wrong with it?
Almost certainly not. Lumber in 1990s and 2000s subdivisions dried in place over the years, and seasonal truss movement keeps flexing the upper-floor ceilings and walls, which pushes fasteners proud. The fix is mechanical — new screws into the stud beside each pop, then patch and feather. Done properly, the same pop rarely returns.
The drywall is soft or crumbly around the damage. Is that a problem?
Soft board usually means it's been wet. Patching over damp or previously soaked drywall traps the problem and the repair fails. We cut back until we hit dry, solid material, and if there's an active leak behind it we'll tell you what we found so it can be fixed before we close the wall up. It costs less to do it in the right order.
Can you fix nail pops?
Yes, and it is one of the most common drywall repairs in newer GTA houses. Nail pops happen as the wood framing dries and shrinks, pushing fasteners out. Simply filling over them does not work; we reset the board with a new screw beside the old fastener, set the old one below the surface and fill and sand it. If you have a lot of them, we do the whole wall or ceiling in one visit so the paint touch-up happens once.
